Who this policy covers

This policy describes the Frame Notes iPhone app by Justin Block under Bent Moon Studio, including its beta versions. It does not describe the studio’s other apps.

Your library stays on this iPhone

Reference photos and videos, imported final images, exposure readings and calculations, dates, rolls, frame numbers, equipment, films, filters, optional places and coordinates, and your notes are stored in the app’s local storage. Display preferences are stored on the device too.

The app has no account, advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs. It does not upload your notebook to Bent Moon Studio or provide app-managed cloud sync.

Camera, Photos, and Files

Camera permission provides the live reference view, estimated readings, and captured reference photos. Permission is requested when the live camera first starts.

Saving a captured reference keeps a local copy and tries to add a separate copy to Apple Photos using add-only permission. This permission does not let the app browse your existing photo library. If the Photos step fails, the app keeps its own snapshot.

To add existing media, you choose individual items in Apple’s Photos or Files picker. The app copies those selected files into local storage. Imports can contain embedded metadata from their source; an original stored only in iCloud may need to be downloaded by Apple.

Optional location

Place names work without location permission. Only choosing Use current location requests a current fix, with your permission, to save with that snapshot. Location requests stop on completion, cancellation, or backgrounding; the app does not track in the background.

The app does not add saved snapshot coordinates to its exported reference photo. Choosing to open a saved pin in Apple Maps passes the selected place or coordinates to Apple Maps.

Apple services and external links

Photos and app data may be synced or included in device backups according to your Apple settings. Apple manages those services. Apple may separately process diagnostics and TestFlight feedback according to your choices and its policies.

Opening a source, map, or website connects to that service, which can receive the requested address or destination and normal connection information such as your IP address. Its own privacy policy applies. Reading the bundled field guide does not open its source websites.

Keeping and deleting information

Local records remain until you remove them or delete the app’s data. Delete a snapshot to remove its record and associated app media. You can also remove individual attachments, edit or remove locations, and delete personal field notes.

Originals in Photos or Files, exported reference photos, and device backups are separate. Manage those copies in their respective services. Deleting the app and its data removes the local notebook; offloading the app can retain its data.

There is no complete library export or app-managed backup in this version. Keep separate originals and review your Apple backup settings. Frame Notes does not verify your backups.

Your permissions

Change camera, Photos, and location permissions in iPhone Settings. Revoking a permission prevents future access through it; it does not automatically erase saved records. Remove those records in the app.

Support, questions, and updates

If you send feedback, the developer receives the message, contact details, and attachments you choose to include and uses them to respond and resolve the issue. Support email is forwarded through Squarespace’s Mailgun service to the developer’s Gmail inbox. TestFlight feedback is delivered through Apple. Include only the photos and location details needed for your request.

Support correspondence is kept as needed to resolve and follow up on your request or meet applicable obligations. You can request deletion through the same support channel. The developer cannot remotely access or delete your local notebook.

The app policy above is also included inside Frame Notes. These Frame Notes information pages contain no advertising scripts, analytics scripts, or tracking cookies. Netlify hosts the website and processes ordinary request information to deliver and protect it. See Netlify’s privacy policy.
