Yes. The local library, reference capture, exposure calculations, saved notes, and bundled field guide work offline. Opening source websites or Apple Maps needs a connection or separately available offline content. Importing an original stored only in iCloud may require a download.

Open Snapshots → Rolls to create, switch, or edit a roll. Each roll keeps its own frame counter, film stock, and optional camera. Choose a custom roll length when needed, or use One-off for a shot outside a roll. Editing or deleting a saved snapshot does not renumber other frames.

Yes. Choose Add snapshot from Snapshots. You can enter settings and notes manually; the app leaves the reference image blank and does not invent a camera reading or export a photo.

Open a saved snapshot’s Reference tab. Under Final images, add a scan from Photos or Files. Choose Compare to view the reference and final image together with the recorded settings. Imported originals are kept at full resolution in the app; on-screen previews are sized for viewing.

The current app does not write the recorded exposure notes into a scan’s EXIF metadata.

Scene EV is an estimate normalized to ISO 100. Average and Center are separate camera-based references at the chosen reference ISO and aperture. Your entered meter reading is kept separately from these references.

Filter compensation is applied first. For longer exposures, the app can apply a configured film reciprocity factor. Some stocks have manufacturer-sourced factors; others leave the factor unset. A named film with no factor does not mean that reciprocity failure is absent. When no film is selected, new entries use a visibly labeled general estimate above one second.

Check Settings → Film & reciprocity sources for the source and limitations. Use your own meter, the film manufacturer’s guidance, and testing for important photographs; the app does not guarantee exposure accuracy.

Saving a captured reference also tries to add a copy to Photos. If permission is declined or that step fails, the app still keeps its own copy. Allow the app to add photos in iPhone Settings, then open the snapshot and retry Save to Photos. Notes stay in the app; the exported reference photo has no text overlay.

The app requests add-only permission to save captured reference photos. To attach an existing photo or video, you select individual items with Apple’s photo picker. File imports likewise use items you choose.

The current app has no app-managed cloud sync or complete library export. Your library lives in the app’s storage on your iPhone. Apple device backups may include app data depending on your settings; Frame Notes does not manage or verify those backups. Keep separate originals of your scans and reference photos.

Deleting a snapshot removes its record and associated media from the app. Removing an attachment deletes the app’s copy. Originals in Photos or Files, exported reference photos, and device backups are separate and must be managed there. Removing the app and its data removes the local notebook.

No. You can enter a place name without permission. The app requests a current location only after you choose Use current location, and does not track in the background. You can edit or remove a saved location and manage permission in iPhone Settings. For an older photograph, enter the historical place rather than your phone’s current location.

In build 11 and later, open Settings → About & support. About, Privacy, Terms, and Help are included in the app and can be read offline. In Help & contact, choose Copy app details to copy the app version, device type, and iOS version for your feedback.

Keep the app installed while you seek help so its local files remain on your iPhone. Avoid deleting the app as a troubleshooting step. In build 11 and later, expand the library error to read its details and include them in an email or TestFlight feedback. About, privacy, terms, and help remain available while editing is disabled.
